Proof was the first play I have attended at MJC. I thought the theater department did an excellent job at producing it. Being that the play took part on a proscenium stage, and given the size of the theater, in addition to being in row B I felt very connected to the actors and actresses. The actors performed marvelously. I thought it was amazing that the play interacted so well with only one backdrop. Catherine was excellent in her role, acting back and fourth between anger, depression, love and hate. She has very good qualities about her and looked as if she had been acting for a long time. I had a feeling that the profanity did not belong in the play, I felt like it was thrown in just for the cause. It looked strange when the actors would cuss, it did not look natural as if they almost had to force it out of their mouths.

In the depths of my soul, I know you are the only one that can save my life from the perils of an injustice world. I also know that you are the only one that may be able to love me truly for who I am. And after all I’ve done, when even doubting your existence while crawling thru the muck and filth of my own sin; have the audacity to question you for help… I need a savior. I can truly say I need an entity that is omnipotent and powerful; one that I know can, without a doubt in my mind, heart or soul, lift me up from a whimsical world… Full of despair and anguishing heartache. Dante Alighieri wrote La Divina Commedia in the early fourteenth century. Edgar Allan Poe wrote the “Adventure of Hans Pfaall” in the early nineteenth century. Two works with more than five hundred years of separation in creation yet, two works whose central theme is one in the same, the idea of transcending the confines of this world and rising to the unknown. The dictionary defines transcendence as 1: a state of being or existence above and beyond the limits of material experience, or 2: the state of excelling or surpassing or going beyond usual limits. In the course of these two works the main characters both make journeys to the moon, but both for plainly different reasons. One could also argue that the two works parallel the two definitions given just above. The purpose of this essay is to compare the idea of transcendence as it is presented in Dante’s “Paradiso” with the way it is presented in Poe’s “Adventure of Hans Pfaall”. (more…)

We traveled to Colombia to experience all that Colombia had to offer. Colombia is a beautiful but dangerous country filled with breath taking landscapes, diverse cultures, and a unique history. The country has a rich history stemming from the native people of Colombia and the Spanish. Colombia was settled by Spain with the formation of aristocratic estates. A history of violence has been present in Colombia since its independence in 1821 from Spain. There was a civil war in 1921, another from 1899 to 1903 and yet another in 1948-57. Most of these wars involved two rival political parties, the Liberals and Conservatives. Presently there are numerous small guerrilla and drug gang wars. The prevalent drug industry is suggested to amount to a large part of the country’s national income. The operators of this industry are believed to bribe government officials. Colombia is being aided by the United States and other countries in their promotion of peace, war against the narcotics industry, revival of the economy, improvement for the respect of human rights, and strengthening the democratic and social institutions of the country.

Colombia is a democratic country; yet even with democratic elections held violence still is widespread The Presidency is alternated because of the negotiated compromise between the Liberal and Conservative parties. There are also left wing guerillas and a powerful criminal element in the shape of the Cocaine dealers who have used the profits of their illegal trade to buy land and legitimate businesses, and also becoming a political power. The United States also holds and influence on the country by trying to limit or eliminate the drug trade, by trying dealers in the United States. The Constituent Assembly drew up a new constitution trying to fix some of the problems and violence that Colombia has. (more…)

Many people do not know why the Panama Canal was built or what the troubles were in building it. Many people believe it was built for control over the oceans or having a stronger military. This paper will explore the problems and the importance of building the Panama Canal.

The Panama Canal was completed in the year 1914 and is ranked as one of the world’s greatest achievements. The United States built the Panama Canal as a cost off 380 million dollars. For ten years, thousands of workers worked on it.

It was during the Spanish American war when many had learned that there should be a canal built across the Central America isthmus. Theodore Roosevelt became the President of the United States in 1901. Roosevelt believed that the United States needed a strong navy who could patrol the oceans of the world. In Roosevelt’s mind the canal was the perfect idea to make it easier for the navy to move between oceans and become stronger. During Roosevelt’s presidency he devoted himself to building the Panama Canal.

The autobiography of Nelson Mandela Long Walk To Freedom is a intriguing account of the tribulations that he endured throughout his life time. This is a life work that spans from the childhood of a country kid to the unjust trial and incarceration of a political prisoner. By writing this book Madba, Nelson’s clan name, fulfilled two purposes the first of which was to inform others of the South African struggle for racial equality , and the second was to inspire other to take up the struggle.

Nelson began his book by informing his reader of his ethic association with the Xhosa. His merger beginning as a country boy only gave one indicator of the impact he would make as an instigator of change for his people it was his name Rolihlahla which is commonly taken to mean trouble maker. However from the very start Mandela enjoyed an elevated status in life. He was born to one of the lesser wives of a Chief, whose lineage is some sort of way connected to the Thembu royal house. George Washington is a man that will never be forgotten in American history. Many Americans see his face just about everyday without even realizing it. His picture is on the One Dollar Bill and the Quarter. His name is just about everywhere, whether it’s schools, towns, counties, states or even the capitol. I think that he deserves this praise because he was a loyal man that helped form America. He was also very brave and intelligent and could stay under control in tough situations. Without him America wouldn’t be what it is today.

George Washington was very loyal. He was loyal to his friends, the American citizens, and even his wife. He was loyal to his friends because even though he was friends with both Jefferson and Hamilton, and no matter how different their thoughts or ideas may have been he never was biased or took sides. He also listened to what the American citizens had to say about certain issues and wasn’t quick to judge people. George Washington was loyal to his wife because when he became president he was even more famous than he was before and no matter how many women were after him he stayed loyal to Martha and didn’t cheat on her.

George Washington was also very brave and intelligent. He had fought in a war before he became President. He was also a good leader when he lead attempted to lead his army against the angry farmers in the Whiskey Rebellion. I believe that it was very brave for him to do this because many people were against him and rebelling and no matter what he still stood up for what he believed in and that the law was right.

I believe that one of the best traits about George Washington and something that many Americans admire him for is the way that he could think fast on his feet, and stay calm in tough situations. He was in many situations where he had to do this wether it was making a decision about the law, trying to settle one of Jefferson and Hamilton’s disagreements, or even making the decision to free his slaves. I think that this trait also involved many others such as intelligence and bravery.

As you can see not only did George Washington hold America together in its early days, he also had many great traits about him. This is why I believe that it’s right to have George Washington on the One Dollar Bill and the Quarter, and have the capitol, a state, and many schools and counties named after him. Not only does he deserve this praise, he earned it.

Writing a good term paper requires that you consider the very things, you are learning in class. The objective of a term paper is to take the course learning materials – everything including textbooks, lectures, extended readings, and anything presented in class – and write a paper that demonstrates solid learning and application of the learning material.
